Jack Russell Terrier

I always had a lot of pets when I was a kid.  We raised a rooster, chickens, a pot-bellied pig, two German Shepherds, a dachshund, a peek-a-poo, beta fish, hamsters, and several cats.

The first pet I've owned as an adult is my Jack Russell Terrier, Dozer.  My boyfriend gave me Dozer for a Valentine's Day present!  He is "our" dog, and I couldn't ask for a better pet.  He is obedient, energetic, friendly, and can always make me smile.  He is two years old, but acts just like a puppy!

This post is an illustration of just how fun a Jack Russell Terrier can be.  As you can see, we've taught him how to balance food and other objects on his head and hold them there until he is given the command "free".

I cannot imagine a day without Dozer.  He is my constant companion - I take him on walks and runs with me, and I cuddle with him on the couch in the evenings.

I can't imagine a day without coming home to greetings from my precious pup and my wonderful boyfriend.

Day Trip to Bever's

On Saturday morning, I got up and went on a 4.5 mile run around the neighborhood.  Aside from the inappropriate harassment of a creepy man driving by, my run went well.  I came home and got a quick shower and drank a protein smoothie before we left to go to the mall.

After a few minutes of shopping, I found a present for my parents at the Chocolate Crocodile.  My dad's birthday was last week, and I also wanted to give my mom a present for Mother's Day, so I picked out a couple of candied apples, chocolate cherries, and dipped pretzels for them.

Then we drove to Chappell Hill, near Brenham, and met my parents for lunch.  We ate at Bever's Kitchen.

The food and service were both amazing.  We arrived half an hour before our reservation, and they were still able to accommodate us.  I would definitely recommend eating at Bever's if you're ever in the area.  My favorite part of my meal was the salad bar.  Everything was fresh, and they had a great selection of salad dressings to try.  For my meal, I had the grilled tilapia with broccoli casserole, and a huge salad with poppyseed dressing.  Austin had chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, a roll, and a salad.  My mom had a grilled chicken sandwich and my dad had a burger.  We were all very satisfied with our meals.

After lunch, my parents rode their motorcycle and we followed behind them in our car to Washington on the Brazos State Park.  It was about a 20 minute drive from the restaurant.

The scenery was beautiful.  We took a walk around the park and sat on a picnic table in front of the river.

It was a great day.

Yesterday I went for an 8 mile bike ride in the morning, and ran 1 mile last night.  Since it was such a gorgeous day outside, we went to the park and played 18-holes of Disc Golf.  We also got our grocery shopping done, watched a movie and just relaxed at home.

Do people ever harass you (cat call, honk, etc.) when you're running or biking?

This is the second time this month that I've been inappropriately harassed by people driving by.  I always feel a little worried when I'm running by myself now.

Kick Ass Friday

Yesterday was an absolute blast.  I met Austin for lunch at The Backyard Grill.

Since it was such a nice day outside, we decided to enjoy the weather and sit outside on the patio.

Austin ordered crawfish with corn and potatoes.

I had a loaded baked potato with a combo of beef and chicken.

The food was tasty. 

 

Unfortunately, the service was very lacking. I wanted some BBQ sauce to go on my potato, and it took me at least five minutes to locate someone on the waitstaff.

After we had both finished eating, we patiently waited for the server to appear with our check. A few minutes later, we realized that we'd better go find the waiter ourselves because there was not a person in sight.  The other customers seated in the patio area were receiving the same pitiful customer service.  I am not sure whether they were particularly understaffed for the day, or if this is just their typical service.

Either way, I wasn't very impressed.

But I certainly didn't let it ruin the rest of my day!

I headed back to work for the afternoon.  On my way home, I stopped by the grocery store to purchase a bottle of Chardonnay and some frozen vanilla yogurt.

I baked a homemade apple pie.

There was nothing special about the recipe I used: apples, sugar, flour, apple pie spice and a double pastry crust.

Fresh out of the oven, this dessert looked amazing.

Before devouring this little slice of heaven, we made a fishy dinner.

Austin grilled lobster tail for the first time.  He added butter, olive oil, and a few spices to it before throwing it on the grill.

My dinner consisted of a grilled salmon steak, brussell sprouts with hollandaise sauce, and sauteed mushrooms and onions.

Austin's plate looked the same as mine, with the addition of his special birthday lobster tail.

Following dinner and dessert, we looked up movie showtimes and headed out to go see Kick Ass.

This movie induced a lot of laughter from both of us.  The humor was gory, and could even be interpreted as offensive to some people, but it was entertaining to say the least.  This was not your typical Superhero movie.  A high school kid with no special talents decides to try his hand at life as a superhero, and ends up getting his ass kicked every time.

There is a young girl in this movie, Chloe Moretz, who did an outstanding job for her an actress her age (she is 13).  The character role that she plays is a bit improper for a young girl.  In her superhero costume, Hit Girl kills people without batting an eyelash.

The humor in this movie was comparable to Zombieland, or Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds. Completely unexpected and wrong on so many levels - but funny nonetheless.

I enjoy a good romantic comedy and some slapstick humor.
