New Shoes

This week is National Women's Health Week.  In observance of this occasion, I'd like to give a fitness update.

I've been increasing my running mileage in the past few weeks.  Going futher distances can result in a higher risk of injury or pain.  One way to prevent these issues is to wear good running shoes.

I haven't exactly been abiding by this rule.  I have two pair of shoes that I've been splitting my time between:
One pair is 4 years old, and the other is 2 years old.

I am well aware that both of these have surpassed the suggested mileage limit.

Therefore, the thought of needing new shoes has crossed my mind a couple of times.  I did some on-line shopping for running shoes, but I didn't see any good deals.

In case you didn't notice in the pictures above, I have a set brand of running shoes that I'm happy with and prefer to stick with unless this brand starts giving me problems.

By some miracle, Austin and I were shopping on Saturday and came across these beauties for only $31 at Marshall's.  They were exactly my size!

This is my fourth pair of shoes from Saucony!  I have happy feet again! :)

How long do you wear a pair of shoes before you replace them?
As you can see, I keep the same pair of shoes for years and years!  I try to take really good care of my shoes and will wear them until they start looking raggedy or causing me pain.  I always wear an older pair when I'm outside in the rain or mud.

  2. I'm bad about keeping clothes and shoes for a long time but since I've become more into running I've learned the importance of replacing your shoes when you wear them down. Old running shoes leave me with unhappy feet and knees! And thanks for the cute quote from Oprah ;-)

  3. YAY for new shoes. I love them. Ugh, I don't even want to tell you how long I've had my shoes... I really need to get new ones. Maybe that's what I will do today on my day off.

  4. My new shoes arrive today!! I replace when the tread wears down. I've had my latest pair for six months and have a few too many miles on them.

  6. Don't you love when you find a really great deal on something...and in your size? I think about a year for cross trainers that you actually...train in. =) I keep my shows way too long past the expiration date. I have a new pair in the closet, completely unworn, but somehow I keep telling myself 'I can get another month or two out of these old ones.' I actually twisted my ankle kickboxing a couple of weeks ago and damn it! I bet it was the old shoes. ;-/

Awesome new shoes! Congratulations on increasing your running mileage limit.

  7. ahh oprah! love it :)

If you are running often...say...20+ miles a week you should replace sneaks every 5-6 months. That being said, there is a LOT of debate around support/cushion and if more is necessarily better. Have you read/heard of the book Born to Run?

Saucany is DEFINITELY a great brand. Your feet are in good hands.

Nice work increasing your mileage girl!
